Cyan Clayworks was established in 2012 as a Community Interest Company by ceramic artists Fiona Thompson and Chris Donnelly. Both Fiona and Chris have many years experience making ceramics for exhibition and commission, and teaching in numerous settings. Fiona studied at Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Sunderland, and makes handbuilt vessels with painted and printed surfaces. Chris studied at Alberta College of Art, and Novia Scotia College of Art, Canada, and focuses mainly on wheel thrown and cast tableware with printed images. You can find out more about their individual creative practices on their own websites.
At the studio there are various services available for adult learners, artists and art/design students. (As it is an open plan working studio with all the usual raw materials, tools and machinery, the courses are not suitable for children.) Over the last year there are have been formal placements offered, supported by Creative Scotland, for recent graduates. Cyan Clayworks also hosted its first international artist in residence.
